Lawmakers still chasing reforms after tragic 2014 fire in Boston

Reforms for cutting, welding, and hot work that stem from the death of two Boston firefighters seven years ago were again at the forefront of a legislative hearing Monday with first responders saying legislation is needed to prevent further deaths and hold violating companies accountable. A Sen. Nick Collins bill (S 1554) would implement recommendations from a special commission created and named after Boston firefighters Edward Walsh and Michael Kennedy, who died in a 2014 fire reportedly caused by welders working on a building next door to a brownstone in the Back Bay.

Oregon resort a total loss after fire spreads rapidly through the building

VIDEO: On Tuesday morning, firefighters responded to a fire at Galice Resort, the iconic restaurant and store situated along the Rogue River to the northwest of Merlin. Austin Prince from Rural Metro Fire confirmed to NewsWatch 12 that the structure was "fully involved," as firefighters responded to the two-alarm fire.

NFPA announces theme for 2021 Fire Prevention Week

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) announced “Learn the Sounds of Fire Safety” as the theme of this 2021’s Fire Prevention Week. This year, Fire Prevention Week is recognized from October 3 through 9 and seeks to better educate the public about the sounds of smoke alarms, what they mean, and how to respond to them.

North Carolina teen saves local fire department after raising $20k during Eagle Scout project

A Tarboro 16-year-old raised more than $22,000 for his local volunteer fire department as part of a project to become an Eagle Scout. If it wasn’t for Will Wooten’s hard work, leaders of the Heartsease Volunteer Fire Department said they wouldn’t be able to fight fires safely. “I was not expecting this at all,” Wooten said.

New York: Firefighters union decries delay getting ambulance for injured firefighter

Monday night, a fire tore through the upper floors of a building on Greig Street; two people were in the home at the time and were taken to area hospitals. A firefighter was also taken for treatment and is on the mend. The Firefighters Association said they had to wait over seven minutes to get an ambulance for a firefighter suffering from a rapid pulse and heat exhaustion, the delay they say is unacceptable.
