North Carolina county EMS to participate in Duke University study

Every year, more than 300,000 people die from cardiac arrest, but a new study could help cut into that number for communities around here. When your heart stops, time is of the essence, but that doesn’t just go for paramedics getting on scene. “Good compressions on someone? A maximum of two minutes — a minute, really ideal,” said Rich Burns, Brunswick County’s EMS training coordinator.

Massive recycling yard fire in Arizona triggers 'largest response' in fire department's history

VIDEO/PHOTOS: Phoenix fire officials say a sixth alarm fire at a recycling yard near 35th Avenue and Buckeye prompted the largest response in the department's history on June 5. "I can't remember the last time we had a sixth alarm," said Phoenix Fire Captain Todd Keller. "We've had a couple two, three alarms in the last couple of months, but this is a big one.

New tech helps California firefighters navigate through burning buildings faster, safer

Firefighters with the Menlo Park Fire Protection District have new technology that helps them navigate through burning buildings and find people twice as fast, according to the Fire Chief. The technology is called the C-Thru platform. It includes a navigation unit that attaches to the firefighter's helmet and allows them to clearly see objects in a burning building.

Man strikes windshield of Florida rescue truck with bat

VIDEO: A man was taken away in handcuffs after getting into a dangerous altercation with a Miami-Dade Fire Rescue crew, and it was all caught on camera. The incident occurred Sunday afternoon at the intersection of Southwest Eighth Street and 42nd Avenue. Cellphone video shows a man dressed all in white striking the front windshield of a Miami-Dade Fire Rescue truck with a baseball bat, cracking the glass.

Young brothers raise money at lemonade stand to rent food truck for Ohio first responders

VIDEO: A pair of pint-sized brothers in Brooklyn are making a big impact on their community. Gideon and Josiah Trank, ages eight and seven, have raised hundreds of dollars for first responders with their front yard lemonade stand. Friday, they rented the Cocky’s Bagels food truck for the Brooklyn police and fire departments with their earnings.
