Brother of fallen firefighter climbs for a cause

"I remember him every day." Every day, the Wildman family remembers their son...their brother. James Wildman was taken too soon. Wildman and 25-year-old Dylan Bolt, both from Prosser, were killed January 7th near Naches after a day of skiing when Wildman lost control of his truck and the pickup landed in the Naches River.

HIghway 115 (CO) Fire District Raising Money for Fire Apparatus

Two things are needed to battle fires: water and people. Southwest Highway 115 Fire Protection District needs both, according to Chief Hart Wright. Most pressing is water. Less than 20 percent of the coverage area, which serves 625 addresses along the west side of Highway 115 from Cheyenne Mountain Park down to the Fremont County line, is serviced by hydrants, Wright said.
That means the fire district has to shuttle in water to fight fires. The district hopes to replace its old, unreliable water tender with a newer model made in 1990 that can hold 2,000 gallons - 500 more gallons than the current tender. It will cost about $25,000.

Some of the funds needed were raised Sunday at the Hwy 115 Citizens Advisory Committee chili cook-off. The group, which reorganized last year to fight against a controversial quarry project planned south of Hitch Rack Ranch, also has pledged a part of their funds to the new truck.

Lake Dillon (CO) Fire-Rescue Gets New Fire Apparatus

Lake Dillon Fire took delivery on Wednesday of a new tactical water tender that will help combat wildfires, structure fires and vehicle fires - particularly in parts of the district without hydrants.

With a 3,000-gallon tank, a 750 gallon-per-minute pump and a rubber-sided, swimming pool-like "drop tank" that can be filled and left as a water supply for firefighters, the 2017 Rosenbauer tender will serve as an important addition to the LDFR tool box, the department said in a release.

The new tender, which cost $310,000, replaces a 30-year-old Pierce Arrow tender that LDFR sold to a fire department in Terry, Montana.

Previous to the Fuego Fires Service Area, property owners north of Billings who live mostly in the area of Lone Eagle Drive had no official fire protection. But the Shepherd Volunteer Fire Department had been providing fire and structure fire protection at no cost.
