Washington adds most 'firewise communties' in U.S. for 2016

More residents are taking proactive steps to protect their homes and property from wildfire. The state added 32 new firewise communities in 2016, including six in Yakima County and four in Kittitas County. The communities use fire safety practices to clean up forests and surrounding areas to protect their homes and reduce wildfire risk.

Fire damages Hazel Dell commercial building

Firefighters doused a fire that sparked in the roof of a business complex in Hazel Dell Friday night before it could do greater damage, and no one was injured. Firefighters were first called to 6204 N.E. Highway 99 shortly after 7:45 p.m. A second alarm was called after reports indicated multiple units at the complex were on fire.

Clark County Fire District 6 corrects error that overpaid three chiefs

Clark County Fire District 6 has corrected a clerical error that led to three battalion chiefs being overpaid for three years. Beginning in 2014 and lasting through nearly the end of 2016, three battalion chiefs were overpaid an average of $3,127 a year, resulting in a total loss of $28,150, fire district spokesman Dave Schmitke said.

Bernalillo County Fire Department Debuts New Fire Engine

Published: ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) - The Bernalillo County Fire Department debuted its new fire engine Wednesday with a push-in ceremony. That's where firefighters literally push the new truck into the firehouse. The event originated during the time when horse-drawn fire equipment was used, and could not be easily backed into the building by the horses.

The new engine cost more than $550,000 with funding coming from multiple sources.

Two Hospitalized After Morris Twp. Fire Truck Crash

Two Morris Township firefighter were injured after driving a fire truck off the road to avoid a collision, Morristown Police said. At about 6:36 p.m. Tuesday, Morristown Police responded to a motor vehicle crash involving a fire engine on Lafayette Avenue between Morris Avenue and Malcolm Street near Route 287 in town.

Upon arrival, officers saw that Engine 2 of the Morris Township Fire Department’s Collinsville Fire Company had left the roadway and crashed into a wooded area, police said.

The driver of the vehicle, Morris Township firefighter Michael Zucker, said he was responding to an emergency call when he was cut off by another vehicle, police said.

Zucker said he was forced to take “evasive action” to avoid a collision  and left the roadway as a result, police said.

Zucker and his passenger, firefighter Brandon McCloskey, were transported to Morristown Medical Center complaining of minor pain, police said.

The fire engine sustained significant damage as a result of the crash, police said.
