Injured driver rescued after plunging down steep slope in Olympia

Firefighters rescued the injured driver of a car who plunged down a steep embankment overnight near Watershed Park in Olympia. Police and emergency crews responded to the scene, at 22nd Avenue SE and Boundary Street SE, at about 9 p.m. Monday after receiving reports of a vehicle going over the embankment.

Ohio Firefighter Shot During House Fire

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (AP) — An Ohio firefighter has been shot and wounded while on the scene of a house fire.

It happened late Monday night in Youngstown, about 75 miles southeast of Cleveland.

Police tell WKBN-TV that the firefighter was responding to a house fire in the city at the time of the shooting.

Police have not released the name or condition of the firefighter.

No arrests have been made.

The investigation is ongoing.

Ohio firefighter shot at scene of house fire

Youngstown police confirmed that a Youngstown firefighter was shot Monday after responding to a fire. It began when crews were called about 9 p.m. to a house fire at Halleck and Elm streets. As crews were leaving the scene around 10:30 p.m., shots were fired and bullets came through the fire truck, hitting a firefighter in the leg.

'I'm not going to answer these questions': Oakland warehouse manager anguished in interview

Derick Almena, the manager of the Oakland, California warehouse that went up in flames during a weekend party and killed at least 36 people, defended his role as landlord for the building which was used as a residential artist community. “I’m only here to say one thing: I’m incredibly sorry and that everything that I did was to make this a stronger and more beautiful community and to bring people together,” he said Tuesday on TODAY during an emotional interview.
