Large fire at propane-supply company hurts 3 on Vashon Island

An apparent explosion and fire at a propane supply company on Vashon Island sent three people to area hospitals Friday afternoon, one with third degree burns. 911 dispatchers got a call around 12:30 p.m. of an explosion at Vashon Energy at 20317 Vashon Highway Southwest. Witnesses said passers-by went into the one story building that was already on fire to help employees escape.

Region: Mosier derailment’s costs adding up

Cowlitz County Fire District 6 holds training burn in Castle Rock

Castle Rock residents might have seen lots of flames and activity at 145 B Street SW on Saturday, but they didn’t have anything to worry about. The structure at the address was part of a previously scheduled “training burn” for Cowlitz County Fire District 6 firefighters. The house that was burned was across the street from Castle Rock United Methodist and Castle Rock City Hall.

Woman taken to hospital after blaze breaks out at Walla Walla apartment building

One woman was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation after a fire broke out in an apartment building Friday morning in Walla Walla. A news release from the City of Walla Walla said fire crews responded to the blaze in the 900 block of E. Alder Street around 6:45 a.m. Friday. Firefighters found apartment number 1, of the four units, on fire when they arrived on scene according to crews.
