A dramatic water rescue unfolded in real time Wednesday afternoon in the Passaic River in Garfield, and CBS New York brought it to you live on television and online. With the Passaic River roaring around them, two first responders stood knee-deep in their Clifton Fire dingy. "It's thrilling, but not so much for the poor guys that are in the river," witness Bernard Gustafson said.

Florida beach now deadliest in US this year after 3 more drownings

Panama City Beach in Florida is now the deadliest in the U.S. so far in 2023 after three more deaths this past weekend. Despite double red flag warnings, which mean no swimming is allowed in the Gulf, heavy rip currents led to the three drownings and dozens of rescues. National Weather Service statistics show that Panama City has had seven rip current-related deaths in the past nine days, more surf zone fatalities than any other beach in the U.

14 firefighting academy graduates to join Kent-based Puget Sound Fire

Fourteen Kent-based Puget Sound Fire firefighters were among the 46 recruits who graduated from the South King County Fire Training Consortium. The ceremony was Tuesday night, June 27 at River of Life Fellowship Church in Kent. The new firefighters are from 11 King County fire departments and the King County Sheriff’s Office Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting Unit.

State fire assistance mobilized for 'Methow Fire' burning near Wenatchee

State fire crews have been mobilized for a wildfire burning near the city of Wenatchee in Chelan County. According to a statement from the state fire marshal, the "Methow Fire" started around 1:25 p.m. The fire is currently burning in shrub-steppe, threatening homes and natural resources. Level 2 evacuations were issued at the beginning of the fire, but around 6 p.

‘We have a fire!’: 911 calls from massive North Carolina construction site fire released

VIDEOS: New 911 calls are painting a dire picture in the moments leading up to the massive fire in SouthPark last month. It happened at a construction site not far from Charlotte’s SouthPark Mall. Two construction workers died in the fire. That massive blaze was considered a five-alarm fire, meaning hundreds of firefighters were called to the scene.
