A 13-year-old is facing charges for allegedly attacking two Gastonia firefighters Tuesday night, police said.
The Gastonia Police Department responded to the reported assault of a firefighter around 9 p.m. on Pikes Peak Drive. Gastonia fire officials said one of their firefighters was attacked by a teen who was armed with a knife.

VIDEO: A 911 report from a driver of an electrical odor and smoke coming from his car. The man tried to slow the fire with water, but flames had already spread to a nearby field.
30 acres of a dry wheat field caught fire and prompted four agencies to respond to the fire.
Property owners report an estimated $10,000 in damages, but crews were able to keep the fire from spreading to a home and communications tower.

On April 26, Kadlec Regional Medical Center and Richland Fire Department announced they're partnering to raise awareness about Safe Haven locations in the Tri-Cities.
Officials from Kadlec tell us the law, first passed in 2002 allows a parent of a newborn—less than 72 hours old— to transfer the newborn to a qualified person at a location and not be subject to prosecution.

A potential fire levy lid lift may be in the works as Whatcom 4 faces low funding. The Whatcom County Fire District 4 Board of Commissioners will meet on Monday, May 1st, to discuss placing the levy increase on this year’s primary election ballot.
If approved, it would keep Station 12 responding to emergency calls 24 hours a day.

PHOTO: Firefighters from North Whatcom Fire and Rescue stations 63, 72 and 69 joined Lynden Fire Department in a live-fire burn training exercise Thursday, April 20 at an abandoned home at the corner of Benson Road and Sunrise Drive.
According to Lynden Assistant Fire Chief Kristie Watson, the purpose of the live-fire training was to enhance firefighter knowledge, skills and abilities in structural firefighting.
