Michigan firefighters union calls conditions on acceptance of $1.67 million grant 'unreasonable'

The Jackson firefighters union called the conditions the City Council placed on its acceptance of a grant to hire nine firefighters "unreasonable" and "detrimental to our membership." "The city of Jackson council and mayor have failed the residents, business owners and firefighters of the city," Scott Stoker, president of the Summit-Jackson Professional Firefighters Union Local 1306, said in a statement.

Houston 911 dispatcher charged for hanging up on calls because she didn't feel like talking

When Hua Li called 911 to report a robbery, the woman on the other end of the phone answered with a sigh - and then hung up. Now, 911 operator Crenshanda Williams, 43, of Houston, is facing two misdemeanor charges for allegedly hanging up on concerned callers just because she didn't feel like talking.

Semi-truck driver killed in rollover crash on northbound I-5 in Seattle

The 39-year-old driver of a semi-truck was killed when his big rig hauling a trailer overturned in the express lanes underneath Interstate 5 Thursday night, according to the Washington State Patrol. The express lanes on I-5 were reopened just after 7 a.m. The patrol identified the driver as Varinder Deol of Abbotsford, B.

Seattle wind storms: A historic look at fatal weather events

On Oct. 12, 1962, the Columbus Day Storm killed dozens of people on the west coast, set rain records in two major California cities, closed the Seattle World's Fair early on the day of the storm, and caused at least $230 million in damage. Clark County firefighters, crane pull trapped cow from rising creek

With the help of a crane, firefighters hoisted to safety a cow trapped in a rising creek northeast of the fairgrounds Thursday morning. Clark County Fire & Rescue Division Chief Tim Dawdy said firefighters got a call around 11 a.m. from a local rancher, Gary Allen Brooks, who said one of his cows was stuck in a creek on his property.
