All in the family: Kids join Dad as Bellevue firefighters

Fathers often dream of their sons following them into their line of work, and daughters have been known to follow their mothers in their careers. We don’t often hear of a son and daughter following their father into the same job as firefighters, but that’s what’s happened in Bellevue. Battalion Chief Doug Halbert recently welcomed his 27-year-old daughter Emily and 25-year-old son Sam to the Bellevue Fire Department in 2022.

King County: 3 kayakers rescued from Green River Gorge

Three kayakers went missing in the Green River Gorge just hours before sundown on Wednesday, prompting the response of multiple agencies in southeast King County. At approximately 7:45 p.m., Enumclaw Fire, Puget Sound Fire, Valley Regional Fire, Renton Fire, King County Medic One and King County Sherriff’s Office were dispatched to the 29500 block of the Green River Gorge north of Enumclaw and east of Black Diamond on June 7.

Industrial building fire in Washington destroys 7 businesses

VIDEO/PHOTOS: A fire tore through a large industrial building in the Salmon Creek area north of Vancouver late Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning and destroyed at least seven businesses, according to a news release from Clark County Fire District 6. There were no reported injuries. Dispatch records show crews were initially called to a commercial fire at 14615 NE 13th Court at around 10:45 p.

Arsonist who targeted Texas Governor's mansion still at large 15 years later

PHOTOS: A shadowy figure pitched a Molotov cocktail onto the veranda of the Texas Governor's Mansion 15 years ago, then vanished into the night-cloaked oaks. We might never know who torched and nearly destroyed the Texas landmark, now 167 years old, on June 8, 2008. Although there was surveillance video, the Texas Department of Public Safety has yet to charge anyone, and the statute of limitations for the crime expired in 2019.
