California firefighter killed in accident remembered by family, colleagues

He married his high school sweetheart and joined the same fire department his beloved father devoted his professional life to for more than two decades. But Ryan Osler’s life was cut short early Wednesday when the fire rig he was riding in overturned on a dark highway in Lompoc as the Ventura County Fire Department engineer helped battle the Canyon Fire near Vandenberg Air Force Base.

Two Days After Fall, Pennsylvania Firefighter Succumbs to Injury

A North Belle Vernon firefighter died two days after he sustained serious injuries enroute to call. Charles E. Horan, 61, was preparing to leave his home to assist law enforcement access the roof of a building when he tripped and fell just before 11 a.m. on Sept. 19. Horan was transported to the hospital.

New Kansas fire station to have bunk rooms, not bedrooms

After experimenting with individual bedrooms, the Hutchinson Fire Department is returning to what works best for it with a new fire station at the intersection of Avenue E and Walnut Street. The new Fire Station No. 3 will have bunk rooms, with beds for multiple firefighters. Deputy Chief Doug Hanen said Tuesday that the department has found bunk rooms for multiple firefighters help team cohesion.

Detroit Fire Department launches investigation after women in bikinis seen dancing on firetruck

Video that shows girls in bikinis twerking on a Detroit firetruck has caused a stir on the internet, but some say it's not what it seems. It probably seemed like a good idea at the time. Detroit firefighters stopped their firetruck at a car wash to support a locally owned business. The Jet Spa and Ultra Wash on Second and Clairmount avenues is a vehicle detail shop with a grill next door.

Houston mayor says fire department must fix problems with chemical hazards

Top officials with the city of Houston said the Fire Department needs a major shakeup on addressing hazardous materials. A Houston Chronicle investigation reported Sunday the city doesn't know where most dangerous chemicals are, hasn't inspected more than three-quarters of the ones it does know about, and is still relying on paper records despite a sophisticated database.
