Grapevine (TX) Welcomes New Fire Engine with Push-In Ceremony

The Grapevine Fire Department introduced the newest member of its fleet - Engine 4, The Guardian - on Saturday by going old school with a "push-in" ceremony and first "bath." Dozens of firefighters and well-wishers turned out to symbolically back Engine 4, a 2016 Pierce Rescue Engine, into its bay at Fire Station 4, a tradition that dates to the days of horse-drawn fire equipment.

And honoring another decades-old custom, civic leaders and firefighting fans of all ages wiped the truck dry after it was hosed down at the station located in the 4500 block of Merlot Avenue in south Grapevine.

At the same ceremony, the department retired 10-year-old Quint 4, a 2007 Rosenbauer Quint.

Firefighters in Grapevine, Texas, celebrated the arrival of a new rig with a traditional push-in ceremony, according to the Star-Telegram.

New Fire Truck for Change Islands (Canada)

The mayor of Change Islands says the entire community is "so pleased" with the news that a new fire truck will soon be in service.

"It's wonderful that it's happening," Mayor Stephen Brinson told CBC Radio's Central Morning Show. "It's a beautiful machine, that's for sure."

On Aug. 11, the Liberal government announced a new 1,500-gallon tanker truck, funded 90 per cent by the province, is expected to be in service by the fall of 2017 — although Brinson hopes the truck will be ready in the next three to six months.

The truck will replace a not-so-beautiful machine.

The community has been making do for years with a 1983 Chevy with an untrustworthy transmission that broke down in January 2015, crippling the ability for the fire department to respond to emergencies.

The Change Isands community--located in the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador--is getting a new fire apparatus, according to CBC news.
