Kentucky Firefighter Trapped in Fire Apparatus After Collision with Car

A firefighter was reportedly trapped in the driver's seat of a fire truck after a crash at Man o' War Boulevard and Nichols Park Drive Monday afternoon. The firefighter was said to have minor injuries. Crews were called to the scene at 4:42 p.m., after the truck collided with a four-door passenger car that damaged the door of the fire truck, trapping the firefighter inside.
The firefighter had minor injuries, but the driver of the sedan was in critical condition, said police Lt. Andrew Daugherty. No other firefighters were injured.

The fire truck was responding to a call with lights and sirens when the wreck occurred after the intersection, Daugherty said.

The silver sedan on the outer loop of Man o’ War jumped the median and collided with Fire Engine 15 on the inner loop, Daugherty said. The truck hit the passenger side of the car, he said.

Grand Opening of Little Meadows New Fire Station is Bittersweet

Fire trucks from around Susquehanna County and even New York paraded from the state line down Pennsylvania Avenue to the grand opening of the new fire station.
To make this a reality, folks at the Little Meadows Volunteer Fire Company and Rescue Squad tirelessly raised more than $500,000.

"We have had chicken barbeques. We have had pancake breakfasts," fire company president Mary Shaughnessy said.

A $350,000 check from Talisman Energy paid for the remainder of the $875,000 project.

Firefighters said they really realized how inadequate the old fire station was during the flood of 2011 when victims came seeking shelter.

"It was awful, just awful. It tore me up to see an elderly woman sitting there shivering, and we couldn't do anything to help her because blankets was all we had at that time," said Shaughnessy.

The Elizabethtown Fire Department is one step closer to obtaining its new engine. Members of the fire department travelled to Nesquehoning, Pa., Monday for a final inspection. "We were excited to see the finished product, and it has definitely met our expectations," said Fire Chief Nick West.
The truck, which will carry 1,000 gallons of water and pump up to 1,500 gallons per minute, will leave Pennsylvania next week headed for the dealer in Sumpter, S.C. There, it will go through a final preparation process that includes an additional pump test, small equipment installation, detailing, and servicing.
