East Valley fire Chief Mike Riel may be on his way out.
Riel said Friday that he is considering early retirement after recently turning 61 years old, and fire commissioners offered a mixed message on his status with the department, where he has been chief since 2013.
Commissioner Dan McNulty said he understood that Riel was no longer in charge of the department, while commissioner Les Riel said his brother was taking time off but remained as chief.
