Property owners sue Connecticut city, fire officials over perfume factory blaze

Ohio town may soon be forced to choose between firefighters and police

Facing yet another sloppy recall effort, East Cleveland Mayor Gary Norton summed up the faded prospects of his city in a brief conversation Friday afternoon: "Voters can throw the bums out if they want and bring in new bums, but that won't change anything. This city currently doesn't have the fiscal means to safely survive," he said.

Update: Discarded burnt pellets deemed cause of fire that gutted Mt. Vernon businesses

The cause of a 4-alarm fire that gutted a furniture and stove store in Mount Vernon has been ruled as accidental. Fire investigators say an employee of the Craft Stoves store was seen Saturday afternoon discarding burnt pellets into a wood bin next to the building that was also next to a stack of wood pallets.
