Firefighters rescue man after fall off cliff while in Skamania County

A 29-year-old Beaverton man was rescued after he fell about 20-25 feet from a cliff while hiking in Skamania County Wednesday evening. Jared West was hiking with his brother and a friend east of Washougal in an area known as the Ozone Wall, near State Route 14. The group had researched a climbing route but realized they were in the wrong area and the climb was more technical than they anticipated, according to Sheriff Dave Brown of the Skamania County Sheriff’s Office.

Benton County: Fire in Webber Canyon burns through the day

A brush fire in Webber Canyon started at around 10:30 this morning according to Benton County Fire District #2 Captain Jeff Ripley. It quickly spread and other fire crews were brought in for backup, usually Benton County Fire District 2 and 5 would be the ones to respond but because of the scale of the fire and the rapid growth others came in.
