East Pierce Fire & Rescue acquires a life-saving tool for pets

Pets are an important part of any family. Should a house fire or other disaster happen, East Pierce Fire & Rescue is now even more prepared to rescue furry members of the family. Firefighters now have access to specially designed oxygen masks that could help save pets suffering smoke inhalation after being rescued from a fire.

Quilcene EMS levy stabilizes staffing

Jefferson County Fire District 2's (Quilcene Fire Rescue) first-ever EMS levy has passed with 74.85 percent approval as of the last count. County elections officials counted 17 ballots April 28 toward that measure after counting some 43 on April 27. Officials do not expect to do another count until election is certified May 6.

Kansas fire chief reacts to new public employee gun law

Kansas governor Sam Brownback signed house bill 2502 into law this week, a bundle of gun-legislation from the session. It will allow public employees like firefighters and paramedics to concealed carry a weapon while on the clock. One local fire chief will be hesitant to adopt the law over to his department.

Arsonist gets 9 years in prison for seriously injuring Fresno fire Capt. Pete Dern

A criminal case that made national news a year ago when a bystander’s video showed Fresno fire Capt. Pete Dern falling through a burning roof, followed by his dramatic rescue by fellow firefighters, ended Wednesday when the woman who pleaded no contest to starting the house fire was sentenced to nine years in prison.
