How CO kills firefighters

While looking for an SOP on a large metropolitan fire department's website, I stumbled across something unrelated that caught my eye. This SOP was from a fire department I highly respect as leaders in safety and employee health. To my surprise I noticed an SOP allowing for firefighters to remove their SCBA if the carbon monoxide level is less than 50 ppm in the sampling.

Trimble (TN) Receives New Pumper Fire Apparatus

The Trimble Fire Department recently received an upgrade. Members of the fire department have been anxiously awaiting the arrival of their new pumper fire truck for quite some time now.
The new truck was delivered to the fire department early Wednesday afternoon. Upon its arrival, members of the volunteer fire department eagerly began equipping the truck with hoses and other necessary equipment.

Although the department has been in need of a new truck for some time now, the funds necessary to obtain the truck were not available until last April, at which time the department was able to qualify for a grant to cover the truck's cost. The final inspection of the truck was completed on Feb. 23.

The pumper truck was purchased from 'Four Guys', a company located in Pennsylvania, for a total of $275,000, and will be replacing the department's previously used truck, Engine 11, which is a 1975 model. The department's other fire engine, Rescue 10, is a 1984 model.
