Crews fight fire at missile site in Medical Lake

Firefighters in Medical Lake are battling an active structure fire on Thursday at on old missile site, according to fire officials. Medical lake fire officials said there was no electricity in the building that caught fire. Neighbors said they heard an explosion at an old an old shop and saw it fully engulfed in flames.

'Popping, cracking, screaming': 2 burned in fire at makeshift Seattle RV campground

An overnight fire at a makeshift RV campground in Seattle destroyed a motorhome and sent its two occupants screaming into the night as they escaped the crackling flames. Fire crews responded to the scene, at 2001 15th Ave. West in Seattle's Interbay neighborhood, at about 4:25 a.m. after receiving reports of a fire in the RV camground.

Modesto Eyes $5.4 Million Deal for Fire Trucks

Modesto is considering spending nearly $5.4 million over 10 years to lease five new fire engines and two new ladder trucks from Wisconsin-based Pierce Manufacturing. Fire Chief Sean Slamon says this is a smart way to replace aging equipment without increasing the Fire Department's cash-strapped budget.

Fire Chief Sean Slamon says this is a smart way to replace aging equipment without increasing the Fire Department’s cash-strapped budget. The money for the lease payments would come from savings from reduced maintenance costs and from money now being used to pay off the recent purchase of two Pierce fire engines. Those payments end in 2018, and the lease payments begin in 2017.

Cowlitz Chaplaincy welcomes first woman and Spanish-speaking pastor

A few hours after a fatal New Year’s Eve shooting near Woodland, the Cowlitz Chaplaincy’s newest member was called out. On her first call as a chaplain, Caliatra Riesterer arrived at 4 a.m. and focused on the women at the scene, spending several hours with the 27-year-old victim’s mother. “It was a huge event,” said Tom Haan, executive director of the Chaplaincy.
