Highland High School vandalized, arsonist still at large

Highland is a small, close knit community, but over the weekend an act of vandalism left many surprised and concerned. Saturday night's arson left parts of Highland high school's track field charred, the school's high jump mats completely destroyed, and the vandals even managed to douse the rest of the track mats in gasoline.

Yakima County to create more "Firewise communities"

Yakima County leaders are taking steps to educate more people about fire danger. County commissioners have signed an agreement with the Department of Natural Resources to establish more "Firewise communities." Firewise communities are a way for neighbors to take initiative and responsibility for their homes and protect themselves from wildfires.

2 Firefighters injured in house fire on Lake Tapps

Two firefighter suffered minor injuries after a fire broke out at a house near Tacoma Point on Lake Tapps Thursday afternoon. East Pierce firefighters were called to a residence in the 2000 block of Tacoma Point Dr. E in the Lake Tapps area around 2:15 p.m. Thursday. When crews arrived, they found the inside of the house engulfed in flames.
