County commissioners have signed an agreement with the Department of Natural Resources to establish more "Firewise communities." Firewise communities are a way for neighbors to take initiative and responsibility for their homes and protect themselves from wildfires.

Two firefighter suffered minor injuries after a fire broke out at a house near Tacoma Point on Lake Tapps Thursday afternoon. East Pierce firefighters were called to a residence in the 2000 block of Tacoma Point Dr. E in the Lake Tapps area around 2:15 p.m. Thursday. When crews arrived, they found the inside of the house engulfed in flames.
