Mercer Island fire chief earns masters from Naval Postgrad School

Steve Heitman, fire chief of the Mercer Island Fire Department (MIFD), completed a Master of Arts degree in security studies at the Naval Postgraduate School Center for Homeland Defense and Security (CHDS) on March 25. Heitman has held numerous positions and ranks throughout his 15-year career with the fire department, including responsibilities in training, operations, logistics and support, and community risk reduction.

Letter: East Pierce Fire chief makes case for support of ballot measure

Ballots for the April 26 special election will be mailed on April 8. Inside, you will see a ballot issue for East Pierce Fire and Rescue asking voters to consider re-setting (or lifting) the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) levy lid to the originally-approved 50 cents per $1,000 of assessed property value.
