Scott Fire Apparatus Involved in Accident

A Scott Fire Department unit was involved in a crash Tuesday while responding to a fatal two-vehicle crash near the intersection of LA 93 and LA 723 that left one person dead and one wounded.
While responding to the scene of the fatal crash, a Scott Fire Unit was traveling north on LA 93, around the 1100 block, when a vehicle turned left into the emergency vehicle’s path. The vehicle, occupied by three females, and the fire unit collided, trapping a passenger in the back seat.

Lafayette Fire Rescue arrived on scene and extricated the trapped victim from the vehicle. All three people in the vehicle were transported to a local hospital and have been released, with no serious injury.

The driver of the fire unit refused medical care and sustained no injuries.

Louisiana State Police cited the female driver, for an illegal left turn.

That’s nowhere near enough, according to Fire Chief Scott Cockrum. “I’d like to have 50 to 100 active members,” Cockrum told the Lynnwood City Council during a community disaster preparedness outreach presentation on Monday.
