A horizontal section of a chimney that serves Port Townsend's only wood-fired pizza oven is apparently to blame for a fire that started inside March 1.
East Jefferson Fire Rescue responded at 10:35 a.m. to The Tin Brick at 232 Taylor St. after receiving reports of flames coming from the chimney.
EJFR crews applied water to the chimney from above and below, declaring the fire extinguished by 11:14 a.

Before that, he was chief of the Pueblo Fire Department for seven years.

Topeka city manager Jim Colson’s move to look out of state for an interim fire chief now faces a lawsuit.
R.E. “Tuck” Duncan filed a lawsuit Monday in Shawnee County District Court on behalf of state representative and former city councilman John Alcala, claiming the move violated city ordinance.
The lawsuit seeks a temporary restraining order and injunction to block the city from implementing a contract with Goodyear, Ariz.

Mantoloking's fire chief is out of the woods after suffering a heart attack while battling a stubborn blaze Saturday night, but his anticipated extensive recovery is going to prevent him from getting back to his Hurricane Sandy-damaged home, a family friend said.
Because of that dilemma, family friend Kelly Burdge said she set up a gofundme page to raise $20,000 toward the repairs of Chief Larry Gilman's home.

A Clearwater Fire and Rescue assistant fire chief who was charged with retail theft last week has officially resigned his position, according to the human resources department.
Ron Gemsheim, 52, whose annual annual salary was $85,000, did not list a reason for his resignation that went into effect at 5 p.
