Marysville recruiting volunteers for disaster response training

When disaster strikes, do you know first aid training? Is your emergency kit stocked and ready to go? The city of Marysville hopes to answer those questions in a program that kicks off in just a few days and Thursday is your last chance to sign up for the free class. The CERT program, or Community Emergency Response Team is an eight-week course that trains community members in basic response skills including fire safety, search and rescue, and medical operations.

Follow Up: Cause of Port Orchard home explosion believed gas leak

The Kitsap County fire marshal said Wednesday he believes a propane gas leak that began in, under, or around the home’s utility room is what caused a Port Orchard mobile home to explode. Fire Marshal David Lynam said investigators are doing some testing on a gas pipe from that area. Lynam said that the room, which contained a washer, dryer, water heater, and furnace, had a great deal of damage beneath it.

Pasco, Franklin County ask to join 911 dispatch

Franklin County and the city of Pasco have taken a big step toward combining their 911 dispatch center with the dispatch center that processes emergency calls in Benton County. The city and county formally asked Southeast Communications Center (SECOMM) to start negotiations to create a combined dispatch center covering both counties with the goal of improving emergency responses.
