East County Fire and Rescue leaders are continuing their efforts to find a new chief, but other options are also being considered.
According to Interim Chief Al Gillespie, the commission has narrowed to two the number of candidates being considered to fill the position.
Emergency Services Consulting International submitted the names and resumes of six potential candidates to the commission following the closure of the application period of the nationwide search on Jan.

City of Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton and Phoenix Police Chief Joseph Yahna praised the work of emergency personnel who responded to a tragic and volatile situation on Tuesday morning.
First responders showed up to a neighborhood south of Cactus Road and 47th Avenue to find a house on fire with an active shooter and four related victims inside.

A firefighter who admitted setting dozens of fires in an attempt to earn overtime pay and impress his peers was sentenced Tuesday to five years in prison for arson, the U.S. attorney said.
Benjamin Cunha, 33, of Placerville (El Dorado County), pleaded guilty in October in U.S District Court in Sacramento to one count of arson for lighting the 80-acre Mine Fire in 2007 while he was a volunteer firefighter in Diamond Springs, near his home.

A fiery car crash ended Saturday with the driver of this car in the hospital---and the contents inside strewn all over the ground. Now, four first responders are without a job, two on unpaid leave, after investigators say five of them stole some of those items and another lied about it.
