The Prichard Fire Department is now operating with two fire trucks after going a week with only one. City officials say they had been relying on other cities' fire trucks for that week while theirs were getting repaired. Two fires in Prichard this weekend are raising questions about the number of fire trucks operating in the city.
The department has four stations in the city, but two of them are empty because only two trucks are in service. By Thursday, officials say, Prichard will have four trucks, but the Prichard Fire Chief says, that' still isn't enough.
City officials say during that week they had a plan, a mutual-aid agreement with other city departments across the county. The Mobile Fire Department is one of those departments, and they helped with the fires on Sunday. Steve Huffman, the Mobile Fire Department's spokesman says, it doesn't cost them any more than going to a fire in Mobile, and that it only happens occasionally. He says in the 30 years he has been with the department, this agreement has existed.
