Anacortes: Emergency response drills stress importance of training, preparedness

Island View Elementary School turned into a mock-disaster zone Saturday. The West Skagit and Mount Vernon community emergency response teams completed the final day of their preparedness training with tabletop exercises and disaster response simulations at the school. About 40 people who completed the classes participated Saturday, along with a number of volunteers who monitored the simulation stations and served as mock victims.

Fire destroys Jefferson County structure, then flares up again

A fire that destroyed a large storage structure full of wood in the 200 block of West Horton Street in Irondale early Saturday flared up briefly later that day. “They are out there putting more water on it,” said Bill Beezley, East Jefferson Fire-Rescue spokesman, at about 4 p.m. The fire was determined to be out within 10 minutes.
