Two-alarm blaze burns homes under construction in Clearview

A two-alarm fire broke out at a construction site Wednesday morning in the Clearview area. The fire was reported just before 6:30 a.m. along 188th Street SE near Broadway Avenue, said Heather Chadwick, spokeswoman for Snohomish County Fire District 7. Crews arrived to find flames shooting from one house under construction, and smoke coming from a second house.

New interim chief joins East County Fire and Rescue

East County Fire and Rescue has hired an interim chief. In November, the five-member Board of Commissioners unanimously approved a contract with Al Gillespie through Emergency Services Consulting International, and he started working for the district the next day. The interim chief consulting fee is $11,500 per month.

New Jersey firefighters' suit over hearing damage heads to federal court

A lawsuit filed on behalf of 34 New Jersey firefighters alleging they suffered permanent hearing injuries because of the noise emitted by sirens on fire vehicles has been moved from state Superior Court to federal court in Newark. The active and inactive firefighters named in the lawsuit include employees from departments in Ridgewood, West New York, Cranford, Kearny, Union Township, Bayonne, Linden and Elizabeth.
