New audio reveals trapped Missouri firefighter fighting for his life in fatal fire

For the first time Monday night, we are hearing the voice of a firefighter trapped inside a Raytown apartment fire that killed a boy and his grandmother. Five-year-old Jeremiah Roberts and his grandmother, Cherri Roberts, died soon after being rescued. The boy's 18-month-old brother, Jabin Roberts, is still in the hospital three weeks later.

Texas fire chiefs call for ouster of county board president, treasurer

Johnson County fire chiefs are burned up with two members of the Emergency Services District's board of directors. Bryan Jamison, president of the Emergency Services Association, on behalf of Johnson County fire chiefs, has called for ESD President Jack Watson and Secretary-Treasurer Keith Kelly to resign.

FDNY’s misleading response times make them seem faster, union charges

The city keeps two sets of books when it comes to FDNY emergency response times — and the data that is most accessible to the public shows skewed figures that are up to 92 percent more favorable than the actual numbers, the fire union revealed in a new analysis today. In the city’s “Fire Statistics” version of the response times, they start the clock when a 911 operator turns a call over to a fire dispatcher.

DHS: Hackers increasingly targeting emergency systems

The Department of Homeland Security and the Multi-State Information Sharing and Analysis Center are warning that cyberattacks against law enforcement, fire departments and other emergency services have become commonplace and are likely to increase in frequency. An intelligence assessment obtained by WTOP, reads, “cyber targeting of the Emergency Services Sector (ESS) will likely increase as systems and networks become more interconnected and the ESS becomes more dependent on information technology for daily operations.

New resources available to help volunteer departments increase diversity

The International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC), in partnership with the International Association of Women in Fire and Emergency Services (iWomen), and the Volunteer and Combination Officers Section of the IAFC, is pleased to be undertaking a national initiative of the Volunteer Workforce Solutions (VWS) program, to assist combination and volunteer fire departments with the means to improve their ability to recruit, retain, and manage the volunteer of the future.
