Detroit Fire Department has been, and continues to go through challenging times as the Motown city recovers from bankruptcy and an unprecedented de-population of what was once the fourth largest city in the nation. Former Ohio chief calls for investigation of current chief

Former Olmsted Township Fire Chief John Rice has accused Fire Chief Patrick Kelly of conduct violations, and a group of residents is collecting signatures asking the township board of trustees to investigate Kelly. Kelly, the former Cleveland fire chief who took over the small department in September, placed Rice, now assistant chief, on paid administrative leave this month.

Fire crews rescue two people found inside trash compactor in Hazel Dell

Crews are on the scene after a garbage company reported that two people were injured inside a trash compacter at 13300 NE Highway 99 in Hazel Dell, Washington at around 6:05 a.m. Friday. According to the Fire Chief from Fire District 6, a male and female were sleeping inside a dumpster. When the garbage company picked up the dumpster to dump it into the compactor, employees heard the two people shouting as the compactor began compacting.

Public Lands Commissioner: $24M more needed to battle Washington wildfires

Last year’s wildfire season was the worst in state history, and state Public Lands Commissioner Peter Goldmark on Thursday asked the Legislature for an additional $24 million to prevent a repeat in 2016. Goldmark told a legislative committee in Olympia that the money would be used for additional equipment and training, and to try to put out fires earlier when they are small.
