Derlyn Vance would fix your car, lend you money, cook you a meal or give you his last dollar, no matter who you were, friends and neighbors in Homewood said Wednesday.
βIt pained him to see people down on their luck. That's one thing I learned from him β never turn down anybody,β said Bob Cravener, as he stood across the street from the burned-out shell of the home he said Vance opened to anyone in need.

Fire Captain Rockey Willette, Lieutenant Hans Solie, and Captain Bruce Drollinger have worked with the Yakima Fire Department for over 25 years.
The firefighters were honored at Tuesday night's city council meeting.

Wednesday a team of city, county, and state officials detailed their findings in Seattle's homeless encampment known as "The Jungle".
Two people died in a shooting at makeshift encampment under I-5 and I-90 last month.
Shortly thereafter, Mayor Ed Murray set up a multi-agency assessment team to take two days and get an up-close perspective on the living conditions and other possible concerns there.
