Urban explorers, trespassers may face steep rescue fines in Minneapolis

Urban explorers who may need complicated rescues will now have to pay a hefty fine for the service. In response to recent deaths and injuries due to falls in restricted spaces — including one in Southeast Como’s abandoned Bunge grain elevator near the University of Minnesota — the Minneapolis City Council approved an ordinance Friday that gives the city the authority to charge rescue fees to trespassers.

Yakima student walking home from school notices W. Chestnut fire; calls 911

Firefighters knocked down a brush fire that threatened homes on W. Chestnut and 18th Avenues around 3 p.m. Tuesday. Fire crews said thankfully a student walking home from school noticed the flames and took action. Jorge Valesco told KIMA he and his friend saw someone throw a cigarette out of their car.

Firefighter benefit concert planned at TRAC in Pasco

A concert to benefit firefighters is planned Oct. 1 at TRAC in Pasco. The event will feature James Otto, Stompin Ground, Night Argent, The Monday After, Tommy Cassidy, Zach Hinson, Luke Yates, Vaughn Jensen, Badlanz, Tony Woods and JP, according to TRAC’s website. All proceeds from the concert will go to families of three firefighters who died Aug.
