Benton County Fire District four just purchased a new water tender to improve fire protection in the area. A water tender is a piece of equipment that is critical in fighting fires where there is no direct water supply. The district already has one water tender on hand, but this tank acts as a back-up water source for fire calls.

Many collisions may result in victims becoming trapped. Anacortes firefighters are now using specific techniques to cut and remove vehicles from around these trapped victims. A fire gutted a single-story Bellingham house Thursday, Sept. 17, near St. Joseph hospital. A neighbor, Jessica King, 39, said she was driving home around 5 p.m. when she saw a “very small flame” flickering in the front windows of 3009 Coolidge Drive. She and her husband stopped to check if something was on fire.
