Benton County fire district 4 purchases new water tender

Benton County Fire District four just purchased a new water tender to improve fire protection in the area. A water tender is a piece of equipment that is critical in fighting fires where there is no direct water supply. The district already has one water tender on hand, but this tank acts as a back-up water source for fire calls.

Anacortes Fire Department adopts new vehicle extrication training

Many collisions may result in victims becoming trapped. Anacortes firefighters are now using specific techniques to cut and remove vehicles from around these trapped victims. These new techniques are designed to ensure the safety of the rescuers and the victims, and to quickly remove those victims. In order to improve proficiency in these specific extrication techniques, Anacortes Fire Department staff are undergoing an extensive three-part vehicle extrication program.

Bellingham home gutted in fire on Coolidge Drive

A fire gutted a single-story Bellingham house Thursday, Sept. 17, near St. Joseph hospital. A neighbor, Jessica King, 39, said she was driving home around 5 p.m. when she saw a “very small flame” flickering in the front windows of 3009 Coolidge Drive. She and her husband stopped to check if something was on fire.
