Storm kills 3 in state; more than 300,000 without power in region

Three people died and several hundred thousand lost power in a fierce windstorm that ripped across Washington state, causing major river flooding, highway mudslides and road closures throughout Tuesday. The storm’s strong winds turned deadly in the afternoon, when the system peaked in the Seattle metro area.

Yakima Fire Department explains longer response times

Firefighters are the people you want to see during times of an emergency, but they say it's taking longer to get to them. KIMA found out how their response times compare over the past few years, and why they may be up. The sound of sirens couldn't come sooner in times of an emergency, but YFD reports its response times have been slower over the past few years.

Yakima County firefighters battle two separate blazes

Crews battled two fires Tuesday as high winds kicked up, according to firefighters. Yakima County Captain Dave Martin said crews battled a 40-acre fast moving brush fire in the 400 block of Coe Road west of Wapato around noon Tuesday. Martin said the fire at Coe Road had flames that reached up to 15 and 20 feet, and the high winds were helping to spread it.
