North Whatcom Fire and Rescue names Pernett new fire chief

The North Whatcom Fire and Rescue (NWFR) board of commissioners has named a new chief. On September 1, the NWFR board announced William Pernett will take on the position. Pernett has been serving as interim chief of the department for the last three months, following the resignation of former chief Ron Anderson.

Crews rescue man trapped between two buildings in Seattle

Technical teams worked quickly to free a man who was found wedged between two buildings at 12th Avenue and E. Madison Street Thursday morning. The buildings are about five feet apart, Lieutenant Harold Webb said. Rescuers believe the man came through a window or balcony, and somehow became trapped between the two buildings.

New York firefighter: Arsonist ‘expected me to die’

Nearly 20 feet inside the smoke-filled former synagogue, the words of fellow firefighter Darin Lewis stopped David Abell in his tracks: “I think this is booby-trapped.” That’s when Abell spotted the trip wire connected to two gallon-sized jugs of gasoline.
