The Richland Fire Department teamed up with Jefferson Elementary School as reading mentors for kids.
Every Tuesday afternoon different firefighters will practice reading skills with students for about 20 minutes.
"It was an excellent experience for both of us," said firefighter Phebe Johanson. "The students felt comfortable reading and excited to show us what they could do.

Firefighters from several agencies are now mopping up in the aftermath of a two-alarm structure fire this morning at the Tree Top fruit processing cooperative in Selah.
Sharon Miracle, Tree Top communications director, said the fire was reported at 9:23 a.m. in one of the dryers used to dehydrate apples for use as ingredients in other products.
