Fire at Tree Top in Selah in mop-up stage

Firefighters from several agencies are now mopping up in the aftermath of a two-alarm structure fire this morning at the Tree Top fruit processing cooperative in Selah. Sharon Miracle, Tree Top communications director, said the fire was reported at 9:23 a.m. in one of the dryers used to dehydrate apples for use as ingredients in other products.

State official wants to beef up Washington's firefighting crews

On the heels of the state's worst wildfire season, Washington's public lands chief said Wednesday he is asking the Legislature for more money to beef up the state's firefighting crews. Public Lands Commissioner Peter Goldmark wants more than $24 million next year to add firefighters, equipment and training next year.
