Firefighters keep grass fire from barn, home near Battle Ground

A small grass fire scorched 5 acres west of Battle Ground on Tuesday afternoon, and the fire apparently was connected to outdoor burning. Firefighters knocked it down before it spread to a nearby home and a barn full of hay, Clark County Fire & Rescue Battalion Chief Tim Dawdy said, but the fire is a reminder that conditions in the county aren’t yet wet enough to burn safely.

Cooking up caring relief effort for firefighters

It was the scorched earth that sobered both men as they drove east toward Tonasket. In late August, local business owners Rob Paylor and Patrick Durney loaded up their trucks with a week of food to feed Eastern Washington fire fighters in what has become the largest forest fire in our state’s history.
