Longtime Iowa fire chief dies after three-year battle with cancer

The man who helped build the Colo volunteer fire department and led it as chief for 32 years has died after a three-year battle with cancer. Mark Farren died Sunday. He was 58. Farren was being remembered Monday as a dedicated community member who upgraded equipment and training for the fire department in the eastern Story County community of about 875 people.

California fire department ordered to remove defibrillators from trucks, ambulances

Most fire trucks and ambulances run by the Compton Fire Department have been stripped of defibrillator machines, a crucial lifesaving device that rescuers use to deliver a shock and try to restart the heart of cardiac arrest victims. County regulators ordered the department to remove the devices last week after fire officials were unable to produce documentation showing Compton firefighters had been properly trained to use the equipment.

Clarkston firefighters respond to 11 firework related calls

Members of the Clarkston Fire Department are recovering from a busy weekend. They were on high alert putting out several firework related hazards. They received 11 firework related calls on the Fourth of July. Two of the calls they received were structure fires and the rest were grass and brush fires.

Update: Fire burning near N. Indian Trail Road near Spokane may be slowing down

The Rutter Parkway fire is still active, and the perimeter is still weak. Crews from DNR and Spokane County Fire District #9 are on scene, with assistance from Stevens County Fire District #1. Stevens County says there will be a lot of aircraft in the area Tuesday fighting the fire, including retardant planes.

1 killed, 5 injured in collapse at Big Four Ice Caves in Snohomish County
