Computer models failing to accurately predict path of wildfires

Wildfires that have raged in California this summer haven't just overwhelmed firefighters — they've also stumped computer models designed to predict the intensity of flames and where they'll burn. "These fires are actually exceeding what our models will even predict," said Ken Pimlott, director of the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.

Battle Ground will switch its firefighting contractor from Clark County Fire & Rescue to Clark County Fire District 3 starting next year, but what that will mean for the 11 firefighters facing layoffs at Clark County Fire & Rescue in large part depends on the city’s next property tax valuation. Fire District 3 Assistant Chief Scott Sorenson said the district will have at least 10 new positions available as it moves to take over fire duties from Clark County Fire & Rescue, and 13 people have applied with the district.

Firefighters rescue 4 puppies from burning home in Bremerton

Firefighters rushed into a burning home in Bremerton on Tuesday and saved four puppies from the flames. Central Kitsap Fire and Rescue firefighters arrived at a home in the 1200 block of Camp Sundown Road NW at around 3:45 p.m. after getting reports of a fire at the house. A neighbor who called 911 said the residents weren't home, but there may be puppies inside, according to Central Kitsap Fire and Rescue.
