Snohomish Co. paramedics trying to reduce growing number of fall injuries

Falls are a leading cause of serious injury for older Americans. As baby boomers age, the problem is only getting worse. Snohomish County Fire District 1 is trying to catch the problem before it gets any worse. "Falls are a huge, huge volume of our calls, we responded to approximately a thousand falls calls last year and those are people with injuries," said Kristen Thorstenson, a new community resource specialist who is focusing mostly on fall prevention.

Firefighters keep grass fire from barn, home near Battle Ground

A small grass fire scorched 5 acres west of Battle Ground on Tuesday afternoon, and the fire apparently was connected to outdoor burning. Firefighters knocked it down before it spread to a nearby home and a barn full of hay, Clark County Fire & Rescue Battalion Chief Tim Dawdy said, but the fire is a reminder that conditions in the county aren’t yet wet enough to burn safely.

Investigation: Wildfire website seeking cash made inaccurate claims

Washington's horrific wildfires this season are inspiring help from across America. But a fundraising website asking for cash donations for a Washington wildfire relief effort is drawing criticism and questions. A KOMO 4 investigation has learned that claims and photos on the website are not accurate.
