One Injured, Fire Engine Potentially Damaged by Gunfire in Troy (NY)

(TNS)

Jan. 22—TROY — Authorities are investigating a shooting that left one victim injured and potentially damaged a fire engine early Sunday morning near a crowd that was outside the Calypso Restaurant and Lounge in downtown Troy.

The Troy Fire Department responded to a fire alarm activation at the restaurant, located at 77 Congress St., at around 12:30 a.m. Sunday morning, according to a release from Troy police. Upon arrival, fire crews were met by a large crowd outside the business and reported hearing shots being fired in the area as they awaited assistance from Troy police, authorities said. Police patrols who arrived at the scene began investigating while dispersing the crowd.

Shortly after, one victim arrived at the Albany Medical Center Hospital via private transportation and reported having been shot in the area of Congress Street. Police said the injuries were believed to be non-life threatening. No other information regarding the victim is available at this time.

A fire truck that arrived at the scene is also believed to have sustained damage from the gunfire, Assistant Chief of Police Steven Barker said in a press release.

Calypso Restaurant was closed around noontime Sunday. But its Facebook account briefly responded to a Times Union inquiry about the early morning violence saying “we are unaware about the shooting that happen around the corner allegedly.”

The state Liquor Authority website does not list an active liquor license for any business with a 77 Congress St. address, only an inactive one for Troy Kitchen.

An investigation is currently underway to determine the cause of “the original fire alarm activation at the business, the crowd that interacted with initial responding firefighters and the shooting that injured the victim [and] potentially damaged the fire engine,” the release stated. No suspects are currently in custody.

Troy police are encouraging any witnesses of the incident or anyone with information to contact detectives at (518) 270-4421 or report online at troypd.org.

Salt Lake City (UT) Fire Department Seeks Gender Equality by Renovating Stations

Privacy concerns coming from staff within the Salt Lake City Fire Department raised alarm bells over the need to update some stations, kutv.com reported.

Many of the fire stations, including Fire Station 1 in downtown Salt Lake City, was built in the 1980’s and 90’s.

With the industry being largely male dominated, the floor plans were not designed to welcome the influx of female staff, or their need for separate bedrooms and bathrooms, the report said.

A request to fund dorm renovations, making them more private, was given to the city, which granted the department $750,000, according to the report.

The renovations will essentially give each firefighter their own private sleeping and changing area, closing off each bunk and separating the restroom area where there is currently an open space, the report said.

The Salt Lake City Fire Department recently received a grant and hope the renovations start this summer. Five stations’ dorms will be remodeled, including their downtown station. They are unsure of when the renovations will be completed, the report said.

Flexibility Defines KIMTEK’s Law Enforcement UTV Skid Unit

LEOLITE™ is industry’s patent-pending Tactical Personnel Carrier

January 23, 2023–Orleans, VT—KIMTEK’s new LEOLITE™ Transport is the first skid unit designed, developed, and manufactured for law enforcement use in UTV sides-by-sides. This patent-pending skid/slip-in design offers law enforcement and military communities many modular options to accommodate mission-specific needs that arise in the field. Two quick-lock base holders in each base skid unit match every modular component option for quick and easy configuration and reconfiguration on demand. Base skid units also include a fully lockable sealed storage box for weapons, ammunition, medical kits, and other supplies. A stainless steel holder bar mounted to the box cover makes strapping down additional equipment easy and secure. There are also built-in tie-downs to secure a detainee to the skid unit during transport.

KIMTEK LEOLITE is delivered in six essential configuration options, each made in the USA and incorporating all-aluminum diamond plate construction, aluminum tubing chassis, and assembly using only the finest hand-crafted workmanship.

Three Modular Field Options, Six Configurations

The first LEOLITE option consists of the base skid unit with two rear-facing seats and seatbelts. In this configuration, two officers can be transported or the base can be fitted with lock-down rings on the sides of each seat and on the base floor in case a detainee must be securely fastened to the unit.

The second option is configured to receive the optional K-9 transport boxes or kennels. LEOLITE™ skid units accommodate either one officer seat plus one K-9 kennel or two K-9 kennels. The skid unit’s quick-lock assembly means an officer can mount the kennel to either side of the UTV.

LEOLITE’s third option accommodates patient or cadaver transport, especially useful when LEOLITE™ is the only transport vehicle on scene. This configuration enables responders to deliver a distressed patient or wounded officer to a waiting ambulance or transport a cadaver from a remote location without tapping other essential law enforcement resources. LEOLITE patient transport can be configured for two patients, for one patient with one attendant seat, or for one patient and one K-9 kennel.

The fourth option includes a storage box with shelf, aiding in the delivery of extra equipment to a remote location. Built to the same size dimensions as the K-9 box, this LEOLITE configuration features a convenient shelf for expanded storage capacity.
