March 13, 2015 Board Meeting Update

The Washington Fire Mechanics recently held a board meeting at Camano Fire’s station 3 on Camano Island. We are now posting TSB’s via social media as they become available, but limited to a maximum of one post per week. This is a brief summary of the discussions: The conference center is secured for the upcoming annual workshop. Jim Juneau will be our keynote speaker this year and provide a class as well. Classes are starting to shape up and provide another year with even more selection for returning mechanics. Financial support has been secured from Kent Bruce to sponsor our website. Kenworth Northwest and Gray lifts will be added to the vendor show this year as well. Any interested vendors should contact a member of the board for more information. This year’s class schedule change should be a nice change of pace and allow events to flow more smoothly...

2015 Grant/Scholarship Application

WFC Fire Administrative Support (WFAS) recognizes that some departments do not have the budget available for their administrative staff to attend section functions.  Knowing the benefits of continuing education, increasing workplace proficiency and the value of network sharing, we have created a scholarship fund to assist these individuals. Money collected from the raffle at our annual conference each year funds this program.  The scholarship is designed to cover, or assist with, registration fees and/or travel & lodging costs for the recipients to attend section functions.

The following is a guideline for disbursement of these funds:

  1. Interested WFAS members shall fill out the application and forward it to the Scholarship Chair.
  2. The application shall include a written summary as to the reason for the request.
  3. Priority for funds usage will be toward registration; if scholarship funds are still available after grants are made, funds will be applied to other conference costs, ie. lodging, travel expenses, etc, dependent upon need and availability.
  4. The Chair will appoint a committee to review all applications and select an applicant(s) to receive scholarship funds.

Rescue 42, Inc., PodRunner

Rescue 42, Inc., PodRunner™ marries the best features of an industrial rolling cart with a hitch-mounted cargo carrier. The PodRunner is an industrial strength, mobile cargo carrier that mounts on a vehicle's trailer hitch. The PodRunner's scissor‐lift chassis enables one person to easily roll up to 600 pounds of total weight and mount the entire unit on a standard two-inch trailer hitch. The PodRunner completely eliminates the need for several people to load and lift equipment on and off a vehicle, then carry it to where it needs to go, saving time and reducing lifting injuries. There are several standard Pods (enclosures) that can be customized to fit nearly any fire rescue need, including the Cargo-Pod™, the Workstation-Pod™, and the Hydrant-Pod™. www.ThePodRunner.com, 888-427‐3728

Holmatro CORE Technology hose reels

Holmatro CORE Technology hose reels are equipped with a foldable handle for hose winding. This handle folds out and locks in one step, so it's easy to use. During storage it can be folded in again to save space in rescue vehicles. The hose reels are available on all Holmatro's SR 31/32 and SR 41/42 Spider Range pump models, including CORE hoses of 50 or 65 feet. They also come separately, as single or double hose reels, with CORE hoses of the same length. These single and double hose reels are equipped with soft-grip carrying handles and a brake system that prevents accidental unwinding of the hoses. www.holmatro.com, 410-768-9662

MagneGrip Group Sliding Flexhose Track system

MagneGrip Group Sliding Flexhose Track system is a compact system, making it a suitable solution where low ceilings or narrow spaces between apparatus may be problematic. The Flexhose system has no hanging hose loops to block access to doors or loading and it requires only 18-inch aisles between vehicles. MagneGrip systems are easy to use. They are fully automatic, have wireless auto-start activation, and will not slow down response time. A support cable inside the hose eliminates stretching or stress and also ensures a smooth nozzle disconnect with every exit. Fire departments purchase these systems to reduce firefighter risk to known cancer-causing diesel exhaust emissions. www.magnegrip.com 800-875-5440
