As fire season rages on, a total of seven fire districts in Pierce County are asking voters for some help on the Aug. 4 ballots.
One of those is West Pierce Fire & Rescue, which serves Lakewood and University Place. It is asking voters to approve a levy that would cost property owners $1.35 for every $1,000 of assessed value in 2016.

Investigators at the Vancouver Fire Marshal’s Office have been busy this week investigating numerous fires that have ranged in damage from scorching vegetation to displacing families from their homes.
The uptick led the agency to send out a press release reminding Vancouver residents that a burn ban remains in effect and illegal burns could result in citations.

The containment level on the blue creek fire burning outside Walla Walla has barely changed since the fire first started on Monday, just reaching 10% containment by Thursday night. The fire continues to burn through mostly brush but it's heading toward something much more important.
The fire has destroyed one home and threatens dozens of others as an estimated 1,000 firefighters battle it in steep, challenging terrain.

Flames ripped through a Seattle neighborhood early Thursday, heavily damaging three homes, scorching the garage of a fourth home and damaging two other structures.
More than 100 firefighters responded to the intense blaze, which lit up the sky over Maple Leaf. Two families were burned out of their homes and the intense heat blew the windows out of a nearby church.

Flames raced through a downtown Renton business complex Thursday morning, sending a gusher of smoke skyward that was visible from nearby Interstate 405.
Crews responded to the two-alarm blaze just before 5 a.m. after receiving a report of smoke and flames at the building in the 200 block of Main Avenue South in Renton - only about a block away from the fire station.
