A new pumper truck will greatly help Benton County Fire District 4 battle the blazes around the Mid-Columbia.
This week, the new water tender purchase was announced. It carries 3,000 gallons of water, and can pump our at a rate of 500 gallons per minute.
Fire Chief Bill Whealan says while it was a considerable expenditure, it was far cheaper than a new truck, which would have cost around $600,000.

Connell has only had a paid fire chief for the last few years. Chief Chris Schulte has been a firefighter for pretty much his entire adult life. But he doesn't just lead Connell's volunteer-only crew. He's the man in charge at some of the most complex fires out there.
Schulte is one of very few Type I Incident Commanders in the nation.

Power lines are down in Renton after a home caught fire Wednesday morning. Crews fought the fire at a home in the 3300 block of Northeast 11th Street near Monroe Avenue South.
Firefighters were called to the scene shortly before 6 a.m. At first, crews had to fight the fire from the outside because power lines were on the lawn in front and they couldn't acess the front of the house.
