The Spokane Fire Department said Monday that two separate attic fires caused by electrical malfunctions damaged homes in Spokane Sunday evening.
The first fire was reported just before 6:30 p.m. on Illinois Ave and Smith St. and when fire crews arrived, they found that the blaze was caused by electrical problems in the attic.

A wild fire in Benton County along the Columbia River south of Kennewick is 70% contained. The Les Blair Complex fires started Saturday, June 27th, 2015 and are currently at 2,853 acres.
A multi-agency Type III Incident Management Team is actively managing the fires that began Saturday, June 27, south east of Kennewick, Washington at approximately 09:46 am.

Clark County Fire District 6 may ask voters this November to open their pockets a little wider to support staffing, equipment and facilities.
Next month, the fire district’s commissioners will consider a resolution asking voters to increase the district’s levy amount from $1.27 to $1.50 per $1,000 of a home’s assessed value.

When David Burnett, a Glasgow Fire Department firefighter, was preparing to grill out June 3 in Panama City Beach, Fla., after his friend’s wedding, he didn’t expect his day would end in saving a 3-year-old from drowning after she fell into a pool.
Burnett, 27, of Tompkinsville, who was sworn into the GFD in January, expected only to cook out and have a good time, he said in an interview with the Daily Times on Friday.

As crews continue to battle wildfires raging across the state, the town of McGrath is preparing for major changes to its firefighting camp, which provides protection to an area in Western Alaska as large as New Mexico.
Sixteen of the camp’s 22 seasonal positions are being cut July 1 as part of the Division of Forestry’s attempt to reduce its budget in the face of a gaping $3.
