Houston Fire Dept. emails contradict mayor's swift water training claims

Emails that appear to be written by a member of the Houston Fire Department's leadership show firefighters were told they had to use their own money and time to attend training for swift water rescues, because the city did not have training money. The emails obtained by Channel 2 Investigates appear to contradict Mayor Annice Parker's claim that firefighters who perform swift water rescues get extensive training.

Okanogan County: 'It's a miracle': Teen girl survives plane crash, hikes out

A 16-year-old girl survived a small-plane crash that killed her step-grandparents in the rugged mountains of north-central Washington state and then hiked through thick forest to safety in what a rescuer called a miracle. Searchers still are looking for the wreckage, but Autumn Veatch says Leland and Sharon Bowman of Marion, Montana, died in Saturday's crash, according to Okanogan County Sheriff Frank Rogers, who spoke with the girl.

SUV full of teens crashes head-on into minivan; 2 dead, 4 hurt

A minivan collided head-on with an SUV full of eight teens near Onalaska on Monday night, leaving two dead and four others hurt, and investigators say alcohol is likely to blame. The Land Rover SUV was heading east on Highway 508 with four 18-year-old men and four 13-year-old girls inside when it collided with a Ford minivan approaching from the opposite direction.

Crews battle brush fire in Pierce County

Firefighters battled a large brush fire near Lipoma Firs Golf Course in the Pierce County Monday night. Orting Valley Fire and Rescue said it was contained by 10 p.m. A huge smoke plume from the fire could be seen for miles at the height of the fire. Some homes in the area were on standby for evacuation.
