More than 1,000 people — including family, friends and firefighters from across the country — packed a funeral here for a fallen Denver firefighter.
The gathering filled with emotional, heartfelt homage would have made John P. Whelan III, a 15-year-veteran of the Denver Fire Department, uncomfortable, said Assistant Fire Chief Tony Gonzalez, a friend of Whelan's.

The Phoenix Fire Department is in the middle of an overhaul over stickers on fire engines and other official vehicles.
The issue was first brought forth in April by Mark Spencer, a former police officer and former Police Law Enforcement Association or PLEA president. Spencer now works for Judicial Watch.

The family of an 8-month-old girl who died after an emergency medical technician refused to go to her home when she stopped breathing has filed a lawsuit against the City of Detroit and the Detroit Fire Department, seeking at least $1 million in damages.
The family, who is being represented by the Geoffrey Fieger Law Firm, is suing the city and fire department on two counts of gross negligence and intentional infliction of emotional distress.

This has been one of the hottest and driest summers on record in the state of Washington, causing fires to pop up almost everywhere in the western part of the state.
