States Strive to Reverse Shortage of Paramedics, EMTs

Low wages, a lack of work-life balance and burnout are among factors driving emergency medical services personnel around the country to quit ambulance duty. Last year, the turnover rate for full-time emergency medical technicians, known as EMTs, was 36% and for full-time paramedics, it was 27%, according to an American Ambulance Association survey.

Mother of fallen New York firefighter says of dismissed charges: 'Somebody should go to jail'

Sabrail Davenport's heart ached when she learned a judge dismissed charges against a former village building department official resulting from the investigation into the fire in which her firefighter son died. Davenport fears no one will be held responsible for the deaths of her son Jared Lloyd, 35, and adult home resident Oliver Huested, 79.

Family is grateful to Virginia firefighters for supporting student bullied at school

5-year-old hurt when stolen SUV crashes into Vancouver home; teen arrested

A stolen vehicle smashed into a Vancouver home Sunday evening, causing both the house and SUV to catch fire, according to the Vancouver Fire Department. Shortly after 8 p.m., fire crews responded to a structure fire at 4710 Northeast 56th Place. It was reported that an SUV had crashed into a house and two people were seen fleeing on foot.
