Steubenville (OH) Gets $761K Grant for New Aerial Fire Truck

With a $761,000 grant, the Steubenville (OH) Fire Department will be purchasing a new aerial with a 55-foot ladder, according to a report published by the Herald-Star.

The city was notified on Friday, Aug. 27, that a FEMA Assistance to Firefighter grant was award to the city, according to the report. Steubenville will pay a $39,000 match to receive the funds.

The grant money will be used to replace a 1996 TeleSqurt that has some mechanical issues costing the department as much as $15,000 to maintain, according to the newspaper report.

Now that the grant has been secured, the department is trying to determine exactly what kind of apparatus it wants, whether it’s another TeleSqurt, or a quint or a straight aerial, the newspaper reported. In any event, the city is prepared to wait several months for delivery, the paper added.

REV to Introduce First Fully Electric North American-Style Apparatus

REV Fire Group recently announced that it will introduce the first fully electric North American-style fire apparatus, reports Businesswire.

The apparatus, developed with REV’s tech partner Emergency One Group LTD, runs on 316 kW of automotive-grade batteries, the report says. A range-extender diesel engine is used for backup when hydrant-pumping beyond three to four hours or other extended operations.

The rig is available for preorders now via any E-ONE, KME, Ferrara, or Spartan ER dealer and will be available for delivery in 2022, the report says.

It features a completely customizable North American design, according to the report. And, to make replacing parts easier, it’s built with locally stocked components.
